This Autumn, Colac Otway Shire joined forces with Regional Development Victoria, Film Victoria and Otway Country to Coast Tourism to facilitate an exciting new event- Otways Film Fest.

Think bales of hay, blankets, craft beer, and sitting under the stars in the heart of the Otways watching films on a giant inflatable cinema screen!

The first event took place at Otway Estate and the late evening sun that emerged just in time took the edge off the crisp Autumn evening. Those who came along had the opportunity to enjoy a beer masterclass before grabbing their food and drinks and heading outside to watch a screening of Australian cult classic 'The Castle' in the beautiful surroundings.

The following week it was Otway Fly Treetop Adventures turn to host and it was a beautiful warm night for a screening of Avatar. Lots of families took advantage of the hot day, arriving early and taking part in the late afternoon zip line tour. They then had time to grab some delicious food in the Otway Fly cafe before the screening began. It really was the perfect night to sit out under the stars enjoying the breathtaking serenity of the Otways.

The final event was supposed to take place at Cape Otway Lighthouse, but due to the impending rain the event was moved into the Mechanics Hall in the town of Apollo Bay. Often on this part of the coast the weather will just not cooperate! The mechanics hall ended up being the perfect replacement venue and lots of young families came along for a brilliant choice of film- the locally made "Oddball". Oddball is set in Warrnambool and the producer, Richard Keddie gave a pre show talk with one of the amazing Maremma Guardian dogs which starred in the movie. All the kids (and some mums and dads!) had plenty of cuddles with the dog before settling in for a great night of entertainment.

If you missed Otways Film Fest this year I would recommend planning to come along next time. What a fantastic and unique event to have right on our doorstep!
